Sunday With the Sisters

I’ve heard of this happening. I’ve read about it; I’m aware of it, and now I’m living it. I’m a little blogged out! I just don’t have much I want to blog about lately. Part of the problem has been that I’ve been crazy busy lately with (dunh dunh duuuunh) no time to watch TV! No TV watching means no commercial watching. No commercial watching means no bloggy inspiration.

So last night I sat down like a dedicated little blogger with my computer, a new episode of Sister Wives and a Dove chocolate bar. This was my favorite ad of the evening:

That William Shatner. I had no idea he was able to speak the clicky language. Is there anything he can’t do?!

On Sister Wives Meri had a colonoscopy- the smartest thing I’ve seen anybody on that show do incidentally. The family also had a dinner for their monogamous friends, (they called it a Friendship Appreciation dinner, and I choked on the cheesiness*) whom they claim didn’t know until recently they are polygamists. Puh-lease. They knew. There’s no WAY they didn’t know. There are things I don’t know about my friends, I’m sure, but I am confident they all have 0-1 husband.

And one other point. I’d rather die than have Jim watch my colonoscopy. If it weren’t for the baby at the end of the process, I would never even let him into labor and delivery.

*If you have Friendship Appreciation dinners, do not be offended. Every single thing the poly family does annoys me. If anybody else had a Friendship Appreciation dinner I would probably think it’s nice. Or at least a nice excuse for some wine.

Fun Drop

What an exciting weekend!  You already heard all about my fun Friday night in Detroit; Saturday we had friends from college over (they are trying to talk me into going to my 10 year (?!?!?!?!) class reunion in September, but... I don't know... did you guys attend yours?).  We get together every few months or so and it's so fun.  I am very lucky that my girlfriends married guys who are awesome.  The husbands have (almost) more fun than we do.

The next day came quick (about an hour quicker) than normal and I hauled my hiney to church to teach Sunday School.  I expected lots of people to forget to spring forward, but I don't give my four year old pupils enough credit because we had a full house.  Sunday also included fabulous events such as: grocery shopping by myself, a nap, and learning to French braid (thank you to YouTube and Molly, who was a model model).  Even Jim was happy to see me learning to French braid when I explained what it was and pointed out that any female athlete worth her cleats wears French braids.

The zenith of Sunday of course, came later when the Sister Wives season premier came on!  It's just as polylicious as I remember.  Someone on Twitter pointed out S.W. is on at the same time as Big Love, which I didn't know.  Sunday night must be a great night for polygamy in America!

In hindsight, I'm a little embarrassed I started this post with "What an exciting weekend!"  Maybe "fun" would be a better adjective, but really?  Honestly?  For me, that was an exciting weekend.  And now you know.  Also exciting?  Nikki Woo- The Home Guru emailed me this commercial, which I adore and never would have seen if it weren't for her because we (sadly) don't have Sun Drop in these here parts.  I love so much about this commercial: soundtrack, dance moves, fashion, redheadedness....

Polygamy Schmigamy

I promise you will not have to read my Sister Wives rants every Monday.  Because last night was the season finale.  Allow me to just highlight a few of the most puke-worthy moments:
  • At a cake testing the wives and Poly-Kody decided to close their eyes to take a vote.  He stood up and manically danced, confirming my theory that jerks also have jerky dance moves.  Really though, I'm moved to nausea anytime he so much as inhales.
  • While the wives and K were checking out a reception sight Wife #1 made a joke about a stripper pole, noting there were four poles. Convenient!  Each wife grabbed a pole while K flexed in the middle.  Similarly, my stomach muscles flexed as everything about him makes me heave.
  • As he dressed for his (fourth) wedding, a wife assisted with his tie.  He looked at her with what I think were supposed to be his best bedroom eyes and commented on how nice she looked, moving in for a kiss and clearly wishing he didn't have to rush off to that pesky wedding.
During commercials I was flipping a channel down to "I'm Pregnant and A Nudist" and contemplating never leaving the house again for all the insanity of our world.  Of course, I completely feed into it by watching these shows, I know, and it's going to stay that way because what is my alternative?  To not watch!?  Now that's insanity!

I looked for a polygamy commercial on YouTube but to no avail.  I did however find a couple commercials featuring nudists.  The one below was my favorite, but if you have your druthers you can go find the rather dirty Red Bull nudist commercial.

10 Kinds of Nasty

Ok, I want to do this without ostracizing any of my polygamous readers*.  Did any of you watch "Sister Wives" last night on TLC?  I don't want to judge.  I don't.  It's a leeeeetle hard not to, but here I go.  I can understand why it may be helpful to have a few extra adult hands around.  And a couple extra incomes to boot.  I've certainly wished for a nanny or maid service multiple times.  I have never (Repeat: never) wished Jim would bring home another wife.  Can you wrap your head around the polygamy concept?  Because I struggle with it.  Really.  Struggle.

The husband in the show clearly thinks he is hot hubby stuff with his three (soon to be four?!  Cliffhanger!) wives and pyglets (the kids- their words, not mine!!).  I get the feeling the women have some esteem problems (oops, non-judgey Jules has left the building).  You could manage a household as the only wife, dear!  You alone could raise your kids without having to share a husband who has (what appears to be) commitment issues!  In the trailer for next week's show the current wives are discussing the potential new wife when one comments, "He deserves to have a cute wife".  ?!?! First off, ouch! to the other wives, and secondly don't sell yourself so short Wife #3!

Don't get me wrong, as weirded out as I am by the show I intend to keep watching.  My girlfriend (who also has just one husband) made the point it may be a bit voyeuristic, but hey!  They're asking for it!

There aren't plural (a word tossed around quite a bit in the 1 hour episode) commercials about polygamy (or even a single commercial that I know of) so here's an ad that makes me smile.  Frankly, I hope I'm so awesome when I'm older.  I'll go out and get freaky on the dance floor and onlookers can judge me all day long as I do the "Sister Wives".

*That's kind of a joke because I don't think I have any polygamous readers, do I?  Do I?  Like you'd admit it to me now, right?  Fair enough.
